There has to be a first time for everything and bouldering is no different. No belaying experience is required as there is no rope or harness involved. We have state-of-the-art mats to catch you when you fall. All you need to bring are some comfortable sports clothing – leave the rest to us. Our staff are passionate and professional when it comes to climbing and it is our pleasure to welcome you to the climbing world. We will teach you proper climbing etiquette and safety protocols to ensure that you have a safe and fun experience. To help you in your climbing journey, renting specialized climbing shoes is recommended.
However, before hitting the walls, everyone needs to fill out a risk acknowledgement form. This can be done online (authenticated by email) or at our facility. Anyone who is younger than 18 will need their parent or legal guardian to complete their form for them.
While climbing is an activity for a variety of age groups, we’ve implemented a few rules and recommendations for the safety and enjoyment of everyone attending. We work hard on creating a climbing experience that suits small and tall people alike. However, depending on the height of your children, they may be limited in the amount of climbing problems available to them. With that in mind, the recommended starting age to participate is 8 years old. If you wish to come with children, please check the guidelines below to respect our adult-children ratios.
Anyone under the age of 18 will need a parent or a legal guardian to sign their risk acknowledgment form before they are allowed to climb. This document can be filled out at home by following this link.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the facility before coming!
The Beta Bloc layout is under constant transformation. Our routesetters are obsessed with creating new, fun and challenging problems for our climbers. Through multiple different circuits, our routesetters work to ensure that the boulder difficulties and styles are balanced and accessible to people of all skill levels. But what exactly is routesetting?
Setting is an art – the kind where physical brawn meets creativity. The difference between a good problem and a great one can simply be the position or angle of a single hold. Just as one crafts an essay or composes a song, setting is a process that requires constant tweaking and adjusting before it can be considered complete. However setting is no easy task and sometimes the original plan has to be scrapped – and it’s back to square one.
The setter visualizes a sequence of desired moves – also referred to as “beta” – which the climber will have to solve in order to successfully complete the boulder. Once the holds have been set, the problem is tested by the routesetters to ensure that it works how they envisioned it. Upon making some final adjustments, the problem is assigned to a circuit and the fun begins!
From the depths of their creative minds, the setters bring into existence a boulder which could very well end up being someone’s climbing project for the next month and perhaps giving them a sense of accomplishment after finally sending it!
